Rose is widely used in Ayurveda for skin, hair and general wellness

Previously we have seen just how beneficial rose water is for your skin and why it’s important to choose high quality rose water. But what about using Rose and especially rose petals directly in your daily beauty routine? According to Ayurveda, rose balances the Pitta dosha, which is responsible for emotions and affects our heart. It is unsurprising then, that roses have come to symbolize love and have become the perfect gateway to the heart and soul of your beloved. That’s all great, but today we will focus on the beautifying properties of roses, their use in Ayurvedic medicine, and how to make some luxurious DIY facemasks in the comfort of our own home.

Properties of Rose:

  • An excellent moisturizer, especially for sensitive skin
  • Eliminates excess of sebum produced by the skin, fighting acne and healing inflammations
  • Anti-wrinkle
  • Anti-aging
  • Rich in vitamin C
  • Protects the outside layer of the skin from the damaging effects of the sun
  • Improves skin color and gives a healthy glow to your complexion.

Considering the above, it is easy to see why rose has become a must-have ingredient in beautifying and anti-aging cosmetics. However, Rose-based cosmetics don’t come cheap. Why? To produce even a small amount of products based on rose oil, rose powder or rose petals you would require tons of rose petals. To produce 1 kg of rose oil you need 5 tons of rose petals. This is the same with producing face masks with rose or any other rose-based cosmetic product. But if, and when, you do find yourself with some rose petal powder you could really pamper yourself and have a really luxurious experience with these homemade DIY masks.

  • 1/2 tbs of multani mitti
  • 4-5 tbs of rose water

Mix the ingredients together and apply the mask gently to the face. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and wash off with warm water. Try not to keep it on longer than the suggested time, as it may dry out your skin too much.

Rose petals and your favorite oil

  • 1 tbs of your favorite oil (for example jojoba oil)
  • 1 tea spoon of rose water

Mix the ingredients together and apply to your face and neck. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and wash off with warm water. If you have dry skin go for rose powder mixed with oil. In addition to having anti-aging properties, oil mixed with roses also gives a soft, moisturizing effect.
